Mahjong 3D takes the flat solitaire layout and builds it into a solid you can rotate. Tiles sit on every face, and turning the block reveals pairs that were invisible a moment ago.
That one change makes the game genuinely harder rather than merely different, because you can no longer see the whole board at once. Part of the puzzle is remembering what was on the side you are not looking at.
How to play Mahjong 3D
- Drag to rotate the block and inspect each face.
- Click two identical tiles to remove them.
- A tile is only playable when it is free, with nothing on top and a side open.
- Clear every tile to complete the layout.
What free means here
The rule is the same as flat mahjong but harder to apply. A tile can be blocked by something on a face you are not currently looking at, so a tile that appears completely open may not be.
When a legal looking pair refuses to clear, rotate before assuming the game is wrong.
Tips and strategy
Survey, then play
Turn the block through a full rotation before making your first move. The pairs you can see from the starting angle are rarely the ones worth taking first, and you cannot judge that without knowing what is on the other side.
Play the top
- Tiles on the upper layers unlock everything beneath them.
- A pair that frees three tiles beats a pair that frees none, even if the second is easier to reach.
- Resist clearing a face flat. It looks like progress and it leaves the interior locked.
Memory
Because you cannot see everything at once, this version rewards a habit flat mahjong does not: noting where the second copy of an unusual tile is before you turn away from it. One or two remembered positions per rotation is enough to change how the endgame goes.
When it jams
- Rotate slowly through all faces rather than spinning.
- Check the corners and the bottom edge, which are the positions people forget exist.
- If the remaining tiles genuinely block each other, restart. Three dimensional layouts reach dead positions more often than flat ones.
