Butterfly Kyodai HD is the sharper looking version of the connect puzzle, and it adds the one rule that changes how the whole thing plays: the clock refills.
Every successful match adds time. That turns the game inside out. In an ordinary timed puzzle you are racing a fixed countdown and a bad patch is simply lost time. Here a good run buys you more room, and a bad run tightens the noose. The clock is a scoreboard for how well you are reading the board, not an arbitrary limit.
Two safety valves keep it from becoming punishing: you can shuffle the board when nothing is available, and there is a hint when your eye has given up.
How to play Butterfly Kyodai HD
- The board is a grid of butterfly wings, all face up.
- Click two wings of the same type to pair them. They fly off the board.
- The connecting line must be clear of other tiles and turn at most twice.
- Each successful match adds time to the clock.
- Use shuffle when no pair is available, and the hint when you cannot see one.
Two right angles
The rule that decides everything is the turn limit. A path may bend twice. A pair needing three bends is not playable, however clearly you can see both wings.
This is why the board loosens as it empties. Space cleared by earlier matches becomes route for later ones, and pairs that were impossible at the start become one segment connections by the end.
The clock as feedback
Because matches add time, momentum is real. A run of four quick pairs can leave you with more time than you started the level with, and a minute of hunting can bury you.
The practical consequence is that when you spot several available pairs, you should take them immediately rather than pausing to find a better order.
Tips and strategy
Where to look
- Start at the edges. Outer tiles have open space around them, so their routes are short and legal early.
- Look for pairs on the same row or column with nothing between them. Those are straight line connections and cost nothing to verify.
- Trace the route and count the bends before clicking. Three bends is the most common reason an obvious pair fails.
Managing time
- Take available matches in a run rather than one at a time. Momentum is worth more than optimisation here.
- Shuffle early rather than late. Shuffling with ten seconds left rarely saves a level.
- Save the hint for a board where you have genuinely stopped seeing pairs, not for the first slow moment.
Where it falls apart
- Studying the board for the best move while the clock drains. There is no best move, only available ones.
- Clearing the outside completely and leaving a dense centre where no route is short enough.
- Treating shuffle as a failure. It is a tool and using it costs less than a stalled minute.
