Mahjong Connect Deluxe uses mahjong tiles but plays by connect rules. Nothing is stacked and nothing needs to be uncovered. Every tile on the board is available, and the only question is whether a line can reach it.
What the deluxe version adds is two resources: a time freeze and a supply of hints. Both are limited, and how you spend them decides more levels than how quickly you spot pairs.
How to play Mahjong Connect Deluxe
- Click two identical tiles.
- They clear if a path can be traced between them.
- The path crosses empty squares only and may turn at most twice.
- The route may pass around the outside of the board.
- Clear every tile before the timer expires.
Time freeze
The freeze stops the clock rather than adding to it. That makes it a tool for a specific moment, not a general reprieve: the point where the board has thinned out, the remaining pairs are awkward, and you need to look properly rather than click quickly.
Hints
A hint shows a legal pair. Used early it removes the pair you would have found anyway. Used on a board you have already searched, it either saves the level or tells you the board is genuinely dead and needs a shuffle.
Tips and strategy
Read the tile faces
Mahjong tiles are easy to confuse at speed. The bamboo suit in particular has a run of near identical faces that differ only in how the sticks are arranged, and misreading them is the commonest reason a pair seems not to work.
Look at the number, not the picture, and the board gets noticeably faster.
Order of clearing
- Take the tiles buried in the middle while the space around them still exists.
- Leave the outer ring. Edge tiles keep their route around the outside almost until the end.
- If a tile appears four times, clear two of them and keep the pair that is easiest to reach in reserve.
Spending your resources
- Search the board properly before touching anything.
- If nothing is visible and the clock is comfortable, keep searching.
- If nothing is visible and the clock is short, freeze, then search.
- Use a hint only after a full pass has failed.
Where levels are lost
- Clearing the easy edge pairs first and leaving a jammed core.
- Spending the freeze at the start of a level out of nervousness.
- Chasing one specific pair around the board rather than taking whatever is legal and letting the space open up.
