This is mahjong solitaire on a cube instead of a flat layout, with fifteen minutes on the clock.
Nine hundred seconds sounds generous until you play it. The extra dimension means roughly half the board is facing away from you at any moment, and every rotation costs time you are not spending on matching. The clock is not there to rush your matching, it is there to punish you for turning the cube more than you need to.
How to play Mahjong Dimensions: 900 seconds
- The tiles are stacked into a three dimensional block that you can rotate.
- Match two tiles with the same face to remove them both.
- A tile can only be taken if it is free, meaning nothing is stacked on top of it and one of its sides is open.
- Drag to rotate the cube and reach the faces you cannot currently see.
- Clear every tile before the 900 seconds run out.
Matches made quickly one after another are worth more than the same matches made slowly, so a clean run of obvious pairs is worth taking the moment you spot it.
Tips and strategy
- Rotate the whole cube once at the start, before you take a single tile. Two seconds of looking saves far more than two seconds of hunting later.
- Take from the top down. Every tile you lift from the upper layers frees several underneath, while a tile taken from an edge frees almost nothing.
- When you see three identical tiles, work out which two to take. Removing the wrong pair can seal the third under a stack you can no longer reach.
- Do not rotate to chase a single match. Clear everything visible on the face you are looking at, then turn once.
- Watch the clock at the halfway mark rather than the end. If more than half the tiles remain at 450 seconds, start taking any legal match instead of hunting for the efficient one.
