Daily Baker's Game
Board controls: arrow keys move between columns, Enter picks up a card and puts it down, pressing Enter again on the same column takes one more card with it, F sends the card under the cursor to its foundation, C puts it in a free cell, Escape puts the cards back.
Can this deal be won?
Can you beat our solver?
Baker's Game is FreeCell before FreeCell: the same eight columns, the same four free cells and four foundations, all 52 cards face up. The one difference is the one that matters. In the columns you build down in the same suit, the 9 of hearts on the 10 of hearts, never on the 10 of spades, so every card has exactly one card it can sit on.
That makes it a much harder game. With every card in view our solver won 74.8% of the random Baker's Game deals it tried and found no win in the rest. Those never reach this page: today's deal, the same for everyone, is one it won and replayed move by move. Undo and redo are unlimited, and the calendar keeps every past day.
How to play Baker's Game
- The goal is to move all 52 cards to the four foundations, one per suit, from ace up to king.
- All cards start face up in eight columns: seven cards in each of the first four, six in the other four.
- In the columns, put a card only on the next card up in the same suit: the 6 of clubs on the 7 of clubs.
- Each of the four free cells holds any one card.
- An empty column takes any card or any stack in order.
- A stack in suit moves as one if it is short enough: one card more than your empty free cells, doubled for every empty column you are not moving into.
- Click a card to send it where it fits best, home first, or drag it. Finish sends the rest home once every column runs down in order.
FreeCell, Baker's Game or Eight Off?
Play Baker's Game when FreeCell has become easy. It is the older game: Martin Gardner described it in Scientific American in 1968, and FreeCell was made from it by relaxing the suit rule to color.
With only one place for each card, cells fill fast and long stacks are rare. Our solver won 74.8% of random deals; every deal you get here is one of those.
Tips for Baker's Game
- Find each suit's blockers first. With build-in-suit, a high card buried over a low card of its own suit can only move to a cell or an empty column.
- Empty a column before you need it. In Baker's Game it is the only place a long same-suit stack can be rebuilt.
- Do not fill all four cells. With every cell full you can move one card at a time, and in this game that is usually the end.
